Mechanics becomes much more manageable when you know how to start. Identify the object or system, decide what is known, draw or interpret the diagram, choose a positive direction and then select the mathematics that matches the situation. The course makes that decision-making explicit.
Kinematics
Connect displacement, velocity, acceleration and time, including motion described through equations and velocity–time graphs.
Forces & modelling
Translate a physical description into a mathematical model, identify forces correctly and use Newton’s laws with a consistent direction.
Connected problems
Develop the reasoning needed when particles, vehicles or stages of motion interact and one result feeds into the next part of a problem.
Exam approach
Before reaching for a formula, state the model and decide which body or system you are analysing. Mark directions clearly and check signs against the physical situation. In multi-stage questions, treat each stage separately and carry forward only the information that remains valid.
